In an announcement this week news has come that the soon to be released 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid will achieve an industry leating 47 mpg. In striving to make the sexy new Fusion “America’s Most Fuel Efficient Sedan”, the company filed nearly 500 new patents during its development.
The 2013 Fusion Hybrid is anticipated to deliver 47 mpg city and 44 mpg highway and the new Fusion Energi, arriving this fall, is anticipated to deliver more than 100 MPGe – more than the projected efficiency of the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid model.
One of the patents Ford filed covers the display system for the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid version that shows how efficiently the power of the car is being used. Fusion Energi, scheduled to be available later this year, is projected to achieve a better miles per gallon equivalent in electric mode than Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid.
When you consider the Fusion is a much larger mid-size sedan that’s a pretty heady achievement. Ford will be launching both the Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Hybrid Energi plug-in later this year. The new sedan will be the first to be offered in its class as both a standard and a plug-in hybrid.
