Volkswagen has announced that well known supplier Bosch and the network of public charging stations ChargePoint will be official providers of charging services for e-Golf owners. Bosch was chosen a home charging station partner and ChargePoint to provide VW branded stations to all e-Golf dealerships.

Owners will also have access to ChargePoint, the largest network of public EV charging stations.

For privately installed chargers, Bosch will provide 240-volt charging options, including their wall-mounted Power Max station. The company will offer full-service installation for e-Golf owner including on-site consultation, permit application, coordination, inspection, and installation of the chargers themselves.

The second phase is that Volkswagen e-Golf owners will be given automatic access to the ChargePoint network with more than 18,000 charging locations. e-Golf owners will get a ChargePoint membership at no additional cost. Some 60 percent of stations on the ChargePoint network are free to use.

Dealerships will have ChargePoint stations with VW branding available for public use as well. Dealers will use them to walk prospective buyers through EV charging. All e-Golf owners can download a ChargePoint mobile app, where they can navigate to stations, see real-time status updates on station availability.

“We are delighted that Bosch is going to provide stations and installation services and are thrilled to provide our e-Golf drivers access to the ChargePoint network,” said Joerg Sommer, Vice President, Product Marketing and Strategy. “Although the e-Golf is not the first BEV to market in the U.S., we are taking a holistic approach to e-Mobility. We want to offer the most competitive suite of services for what we think is the most versatile and most fun-to-drive electric vehicle on the market.”

The 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf goes on sale late this year and represents the company’s first entry into the electric-vehicle market for North America. The e-Golf promises up to 118 mile driving range on a full charge. Pricing and full specifications will be announced closer to launch.
